Brewery Spotlight: Tradition Brewing Co.
The first brewery in Newport News celebrated its 5 year anniversary this year in 2021. The concept for Tradition Brewing Co. was first conceived of in 2014 and quickly became a community staple for the City of Newport News and Hampton Roads.
Tradition can be found at City Center in Newport News, at a 12,500 square-foot business park that, at the time, housed many businesses that left the space vacant time and time again. With the location and the space available, it was the perfect spot to start installing brewing tanks, barrels, and bar necessary for a thriving local brewery. The two floors of space make Tradition an ideal location for local events.
The brewing tradition that Tradition Brewing Co. started in Newport News has staples like the Tradition Craft Lager, the Red Willie Irish Ale, the Tradition Batch #10 IPA, and the Blood Orange Gose, all of which creates a variety of brews that can be found year-round. Alongside those, Tradition has rotating taps that dabble in pumpkin ales, Czech-style pilsners, dopplebocks, hazy double-IPAs, and more. Currently, Tradition also has the Chasin’ Tail Pale Ale, a beer with cans that feature dogs from the Animal Aid Society with portions of the sales going to help the animals that can be found there.
From starting the craft beer scene in Newport News to contributing to the local community, Tradition Brewing Co. has become true to its name. It’s a place you have to stop by as you make your way on the Toast the Coast trail.
